Skadoodle Stepping Back From Competitive CS:GO

By John Nomis | | Read more

Cloud9 is announcing today that Tyler Skadoodle Latham will be taking a break from the competitive circuit of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, effective upon the arrival of a new fifth roster member. As it stands, with well over 100 competitive tournaments under his belt dating back to 2012, Skadoodle’s storied career continues to serve as an aspiration of the new generation of players.

Skadoodle joined Cloud9 in April of 2015 and wasted little time in making his mark, helping lead the team to a 19-3 record and the championship in ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 - North America. Only the beginning, he helped Cloud9 bring home the iBUYPOWER Cup later that same year, truly ushering in the Skadoodle era. His commitment, work ethic, and talent all combined to cement Cloud9 in the CS:GO scene, with further championships coming at the ESL Pro League Season 4 - Finals, DreamHack Open Denver 2017, and iBUYPOWER Masters 2017.

Of course, no day was ever bigger for Skadoodle, for Cloud9, or for the North American CS:GO community than January 28, 2018. Facing off against Faze Clan in the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 Grand Final, Skadoodle and Cloud9 sought history. After back and forth maps, the teams found themselves in the third and final map, with Faze holding a 15-11 lead, needing only one more round to be crowned Major Champions. It was not meant to be, however, as Cloud9 roared back, winning four in a row to force overtime. Again, the teams proved evenly matched, leading to a second overtime where, in the 41st round of Inferno, Skadoodle would pick up the final kill, sending Cloud9 and North America to their first-ever Major Championship. For his efforts, Skadoodle was awarded the US Air Force Most valuable player trophy.

“I am taking a break from competitive CS:GO, I would like to thank the fans and Cloud9 for their support these past years and I wish the CS:GO team the best of luck.”
— Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham
“I could talk about what Skadoodle has meant to Cloud9 for years and it still wouldn’t be enough. He is the embodiment of North American Counterstrike and his break is beyond well-deserved. We’re grateful to have him in the Cloud9 family and look forward to whatever comes next.”
— Jack Etienne, Cloud9 CEO & Owner

For more insight into this decision, and a look back on his unrivaled career to date, here’s Skadoodle himself:

Skadoodle will continue to play with the CS:GO roster while Cloud9’s active search for a fifth player continues and will go on break once the search is concluded. For those interested in applying and being a part of the open call, please reach out to the team manager, Jonathan Tran, at jonathan.tran@cloud9.gg or via DM at https://twitter.com/jonathanaktran. If you are already contracted by a team, please have your team manager reach out.

The Cloud9 organization wishes Skadoodle a restful and fulfilling break and are at the ready to help him with the next part of his career.

Cloud9 CS:GO Sign flusha, Release STYKO

By John Nomis | | Read more

We at Cloud9 are excited to welcome the newest member of our Counterstrike: Global Offensive roster, Robin flusha Rönnquist! flusha is one of the most successful players in history, having been in the competitive CS:GO circuit since 2012, and we’re all thrilled to welcome him to the Cloud9 family.

The wealth of experience he brings is almost unparalleled, having this year alone helped Fnatic to championships at WESG 2017 and the IEM XII - World Championship. But it is 2015 that stands out as a year every pro hopes to achieve one day, as flusha helped lead Fnatic to two Major championships, at ESL One: Cologne 2015 and ESL One: Katowice 2015, as well as championships in ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 and Season 2. The three-time major winner has built a legacy to stand the test of time, and we can’t wait to see him build upon it with Cloud9!

“Joining Cloud9 is one of those opportunities in life that just felt right for me to pursue. Getting to play with hungry players that want to achieve what I once achieved is a big motivator, because I am not done yet. I hope to bring a lot of experience to this talented and young group of players, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the team better as well. Bringing us onto a winning path will follow from there!”
— Robin "flusha" Rönnquist
“flusha is an absolute legend, and I’m thrilled we’re getting a chance to work with him. The work ethic he has needed to sustain success at the highest level is going to be a great fit for our roster and organization. Can’t wait to see him in action. Welcome to Cloud9!”
— Jack Etienne, Cloud9 CEO & Owner

With this move, Cloud9 also announces the release of Martin STYKO Styk. STYKO has been an incredible teammate since he joined via loan in July and his presence will be missed. We wish him only the best on the next stage of his career.

“Despite my short adventure under the Cloud9 banner, I have to say I will remember it for a long time. It was an experience that doesn’t come often, and I tried to be as good as I could. Unfortunately, our results were rather underwhelming with me being on the team, so I completely understand the decision the team made. I wish them the best of luck moving forward! Hope to see you soon, friends!”
— Martin "STYKO" Styk
“We’re really going to miss STYKO and the support he brought to this team. His commitment to his teammates and his optimistic attitude are benchmarks every player should strive for and every organization would be lucky to have. We will all follow his career closely and know that success is soon to come.”
— Jack Etienne, Cloud9 CEO & Owner

The CS:GO team heads to Istanbul next, for BLAST Pro Series: Istanbul 2018, and you’ll be able to see flusha in action with Cloud9 starting September 28!

British Hurricane Update Roster, Bid Farewell to Shifty

By John Nomis | | Read more

The British Hurricane announce today the departure of coach Nicholas Shifty Travis and announce that Ryan CrusaDe van Wegen is moving to the bench.

Upon the formation of the Hurricane, Shifty wasted no time in getting to work and finding success in Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 1: Europe. After helping lead the team to a 14-6 regular season record, Shifty guided the Hurricane through the playoffs, dismantling Young and Beautiful, CIS Hope, and Team Gigantti on their way to winning the finals and becoming Season 1 champions.

We wish Shifty the best as his journey continues and look forward to our paths crossing again in the future.

In addition to the Shifty departure, CrusaDe will be moving to the Hurricane bench and is available for trials with any interested parties. CrusaDe was an integral part of the Hurricane’s success in Season 1, and his performance in Map 7 of the finals helped bring home the championship.
