Skadoodle Stepping Back From Competitive CS:GO

By John Nomis | |

Cloud9 is announcing today that Tyler Skadoodle Latham will be taking a break from the competitive circuit of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, effective upon the arrival of a new fifth roster member. As it stands, with well over 100 competitive tournaments under his belt dating back to 2012, Skadoodle’s storied career continues to serve as an aspiration of the new generation of players.

Skadoodle joined Cloud9 in April of 2015 and wasted little time in making his mark, helping lead the team to a 19-3 record and the championship in ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 - North America. Only the beginning, he helped Cloud9 bring home the iBUYPOWER Cup later that same year, truly ushering in the Skadoodle era. His commitment, work ethic, and talent all combined to cement Cloud9 in the CS:GO scene, with further championships coming at the ESL Pro League Season 4 - Finals, DreamHack Open Denver 2017, and iBUYPOWER Masters 2017.

Of course, no day was ever bigger for Skadoodle, for Cloud9, or for the North American CS:GO community than January 28, 2018. Facing off against Faze Clan in the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 Grand Final, Skadoodle and Cloud9 sought history. After back and forth maps, the teams found themselves in the third and final map, with Faze holding a 15-11 lead, needing only one more round to be crowned Major Champions. It was not meant to be, however, as Cloud9 roared back, winning four in a row to force overtime. Again, the teams proved evenly matched, leading to a second overtime where, in the 41st round of Inferno, Skadoodle would pick up the final kill, sending Cloud9 and North America to their first-ever Major Championship. For his efforts, Skadoodle was awarded the US Air Force Most valuable player trophy.

“I am taking a break from competitive CS:GO, I would like to thank the fans and Cloud9 for their support these past years and I wish the CS:GO team the best of luck.”
— Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham
“I could talk about what Skadoodle has meant to Cloud9 for years and it still wouldn’t be enough. He is the embodiment of North American Counterstrike and his break is beyond well-deserved. We’re grateful to have him in the Cloud9 family and look forward to whatever comes next.”
— Jack Etienne, Cloud9 CEO & Owner

For more insight into this decision, and a look back on his unrivaled career to date, here’s Skadoodle himself:

Skadoodle will continue to play with the CS:GO roster while Cloud9’s active search for a fifth player continues and will go on break once the search is concluded.
