C9 CS:GO Roster Updates

By John Nomis | |

Cloud9 has made the necessary changes to the C9 CS:GO roster effective immediately. It is with great sadness that today we are announcing the release of the services of two of our own, Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan and Kory “SEMPHIS” Friesen.

Originally joining the roster to fit a desired role as an AWPer, ShahZaM has been nothing shy of a perfect teammate within the squad and organization. For a player with a long sheet of public outbursts and mistakes, ShahZaM was willing, eager, and determined to bring the team to the next level both domestically and internationally both in-game and out of game. His willingness was and can be noted by anyone he has been in contact with since joining as one of a professional manner. We wish him the absolute best of luck in finding a new home.

“Honestly I’d like to thank the guys and Cloud9 itself for even giving me the opportunity in the first place. I got the chance to experience many amazing things and travel places I never thought I would.” said Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan. “Obviously things didn’t go as planned and the results these last couple months were lackluster. Cloud9 gave us everything we needed to achieve and we still didn’t deliver, representing NA CS:GO has a whole poorly. I was not satisfied with my own performances as well. It is completely understandable that there needed to be a change. The guys are still some of the best friends I could have made in my time playing CS and I honestly wish the best for their future. I look forward to see them competing as one of the best again.”

In addition, one of the more difficult moves that we have made would be one that requires that we withdraw the services of one of our longtime core members, whom of which, has been a member through the thickest of tough times. Kory “SEMPHIS” Friesen is a player and friend who has seen success and failure while on this lineup. A player that truly has a deep understanding of the game. We have made the necessary and painful call to release SEMPHIS from the active lineup. We have nothing but the best things to say about Kory as a player, but as the evolution of this game rolls on and we move deeper into 2015, it is very apparent that the lineup we have now is simply not one of a functioning successful capacity.

Within the community there seems to be some misconceptions on the goals, motivation, and work ethic of Cloud9 CS:GO. Rosters of longevity have often proven throughout the history of traditional sports and esports that they have the ability to overcome hurdles and obstacles of all shapes and sizes. We would like it be known that the current state of underperformance is and has been unacceptable. Big and impactful changes will be made and all in an effort to build a team that has the consistency to do more than “just maintain” high levels of play, but obtain new heights and set standards accordingly.

“Going forward will be a challenge just as it is with any sort of change. At this point, I can safely say that we have hit rock bottom in terms of performance.” said Tres “stunna” Saranthus. “The common theme I read on forums is that we don’t care or that we aren’t trying and the reality is it’s easy for those on the outside to say that. Allow me to say and be very upfront, this isn’t a free ride nor will it ever be. I fully intend to bring Cloud9 CS:GO back to the tier it belongs within the global Counter-Strike community.”

Cloud9 wishes the best to both ShahZaM and SEMPHIS and we will do all that we can to support them in their future endeavours. Stay tuned to our social channels and website for future updates on the C9 CS:GO roster.
